Alleging anomalies in blanket distribution, BJP submits memo

DEMOW, February 8: On Sunday in Sivasagar district near Demow Block Office, a truck laden with blankets was spotted which created chaos between the party workers of Congress and BJP in the Demow Block Office.

On Sunday morning, in a truck (UP 21 B N 2500), 7,630 blankets were brought to Demow Block Office. As the office was closed, some of the Youth Congress workers allegedly took out the blankets from the truck and were going to keep them in the godown of Demow Block Office. At that time BJP workers came and wanted to know the details of the consignment. This created a chaotic situation and  immediately Demow Police reached to the spot and took brought the situation under control.

During that time, Sushanta Borgohain, MLA of Thowra constituency as well as Parliamentary Secretary of Home Department, reached at the Demow Block Office and told the local media persons that the blankets would be distributed among the beneficiaries of Thowra constituency who had been listed by the gaon panchayat. He blamed the BJP for making an issue out of this.

Dipika Kakoty Dowari, president of Demow Mandal Mahila Morcha, alleged that before the assembly polls, in order to woo the voters Sushanta Borgohain wanted to distribute blankets. The blankets had been sanctioned from the Handloom and Textile Department but the Congress was indulging in politics, alleged the BJP. Alleging anomalies in selection of beneficiaries, ba Ranjan Mohan, president of BJP Demow Block Committee, submitted a memorandum on Sunday to the Deputy Commissioner of Sivasagar where they demanded that proper investigation should be done regarding the incident.
