GAURISAGAR, APRIL 1: Kharadhara amghar, one of the prominent religious institutions established in 1817 at Kharadhara village on the outskirts of Gaurisagar in Sivasagar district, has completed 200 years.
On this occasion, the villages organized its year-long programme with a two-day schedule from Friday. Yesterday the progarmme started with flag hoisting by Tongkeswar Dutta, executive president of the reception committee. Thereafter, social worker Bhugeswar Borah performed the smriti tarpan followed by lighting of lamp by freedom fighter Podma Dutta. The plantation programme was performed by Nondi Borah. The foundation stone of the amghar guest house was laid by Birinchi Phukan, retired headmaster. An exhibition was held on this occasion and it was iugurated by retired teacher Prodip Dutta.
Later, the iuguration programme of 200 years existence of Kharadhara amghar started with lighting of 200 of earthen lamps before the monikut. On this connection an iugural meeting was held under the chairmanship of Moniram Saikia, former Principal of Dikhowmukh College. The programme was iugurated by Lila Kanta Mahanta, Xatradhikar of Barkhatpar Xatra and former president, Asom Satra Mahasabha. Addressing the gathering, Mahanta opined that amghar was the main holy place for worship in Assamese society.
In the iugural function, Badan Mahanta, Deka Xatradhikar of Borkhatpar Xatra, Tapan Gohain, ADC, Sivasagar , social worker Bhim Bharali, Prafulla Borah, Jadav Borah, Deben Saikia, and Robin Borah, former Principal, DC Gogoi Jakaichuk HS School were present as distinguished guests. In the evening, Puram Mili, president of All India SC & ST ONGCL employees’ welfare council iugurated the cultural function. In the function, Mukush Saha, senior chemist, ONGC, was present as a distinguished guest. The two-day long programme ended on Saturday night with the bhao Doikshya Yaj which was staged by local artistes.
