GUWAHATI, Feb 6: Assam Assembly Speaker Hitendra th Goswami on Monday suspended AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam for three days till February 8 for using Facebook to telecast his speech live from inside the House.

This issue was raised by AGP MLA Phanibhusan Chowdhury in the House saying that persolly using social networking site for telecasting speech live from the Assembly is unethical.

In his ruling, Speaker Hitendra th Goswami said, “It is a serious matter. The Ethics Committee recommended suspension of Islam for a specific period during the current session. I have accepted its recommendation,” adding, “Islam is also a member of the Ethics Committee and it was serious misconduct by him.”

Islam had used the social media platform on Friday last during post-lunch session while the House was discussing a private member’s resolution over timely solution to the illegal immigration problem.

While handing down his ruling, Goswami said he had received complaints from several members, including the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, about the incident on February 3 during the ongoing Budget Session of the State Assembly.
