Amit Mishra chosen as new AG

Shillong, April 6:  The Meghalya Democratic Alliance (MDA) Government formally endorsed the appointment of Amit Mishra as the new Advocate General (AG) of the State. The decision was arrived at a Cabinet meeting held at Rilang building on Friday. The decision was taken after due deliberations and discussions, considering his experience and track records, stated the Home Minister James K Sangma.
Amidst the call from a section of the legal fraternity and NGO that the state should have a local man to handle the job, Sangma said that the Cabinet has taken the call after going into the credentials of the proposed professiols.
“We are seized of the matter brought by different groups and his appointment is basically chosen on merit,” he stated, even he added his experience  as the member of the Shillong Bar, the High Court and in the Supreme Court will give a lot of advantage to the state. Going by the Cabinet decision on Friday, the present Advocate General will have to forfeit his office.
