Amiya Bagchi to speak on tiolism in Guwahati
Anwesha to release Assamese translation of Planters Raj to Swaraj on Amalendu Guha’s first death anniversary

GUWAHATI, May 5: On the occasion of the death anniversary of eminent historian Dr Amalendu Guha, the first Amalendu Guha memorial lecture will be delivered by Dr Amiya Bagchi, an intertiolly acclaimed economic historian and emeritus professor, Institute of Development Studies, Calcutta on May 7 at 4pm at the District Library auditorium here. Bagchi will speak on “Imperialism and tiolism in Indian context” which will be presided over by renowned scholar Dr Hiren Gohain.
On the occasion, the Assamese translation of the ‘Planter Raj to Swaraj’, the magnum opus of Dr. Guha will be released. The book is published by Anwesha which was translated into Assamese by Gopal Bordoloi, retired Professor of Economics, Handique Girls’ College.
“It is expected that the Assamese translation of the book will serve a long felt need of the readers of the book, particularly the student community,” said Paresh Malakar, president of Anwesha.
On the same occasion, the paperback edition of the English version of the book will also be released. “The added attraction of the paperback edition will be a new introduction by Rudrangshu Mukherjee and reviews by E M S mboodiripad and Dr Hiren Gohain,” Malakar said.
Dr Gohain has also added a new portion to his origil review. Besides, it includes an obituary by Arupjyoti Saikia, Professor of IIT-Guwahati, he added.
