AMSU’s signature campaign garners wide support

TINSUKIA, May 24: The ongoing signature campaign, targeting one lakh signatures, against the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, started by the All Moran Students’ Union (AMSU) has received wide support. The union has collected 50,000 signatures till date with 15,000 memoranda submitted during a huge public rally organized at Tinsukia on Wednesday. The rally was participated by AJYCP, Bhujpuri Students’ Union and Gorkha organization, besides all organizations of Moran community. The small tea growers as a mark of protest stopped plucking of green leaves for a day while e-rickshaws provided a commendable service by ferrying protesters to the DC Court free of charge, said Arun Jyoti Moran, president of AMSU, adding further that their agitation would continue in a phased manner till the Bill was withdrawn. Meanwhile, Congress workers also took to the streets in protest against the controversial Bill in Tinsukia on Wednesday.
