An Earthquake of 6.3 Magnitude hit Iran on Sunday

Guwahati: An earthquake struck Iran just after 8:00 pm on Sunday (local time). The magnitude of the earthquake is reported to be 0f 6.3 magnitude.

According to Iranian state television, the number of injured people from the Sunday night’s magnitude 6.3 earthquake in the country’s west has risen to 634.Most of the injuries appeared to be minor

The report on Monday said most were immediately released from hospitals and suffered only slight injuries. There have been no reported fatalities from the temblor.

The earthquake struck western Iran near its border with Iraq, damaging buildings and sending fearful residents running into the streets.

Dozens of rescue teams were immediately deployed after the quake and the country's army and its paramilitary Revolutionary Guard were also responding.

Noteworthy that the earthquake which had hit near the town of Sarpol-e Zahab in Iran’s Kermanshah province is nestled in the Zagros Mountains, has been largely rebuilt in recent decades after being damaged during Iran and Iraq's ruinous 1980s war. But many buildings collapsed or sustained major damage in the 2017 quake, which also injured more than 9,000 people

According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake hit at a depth of 10 kilometres That earthquake had a magnitude of 7.3 and also injured more than 9,000 people.
