LAKHIMPUR: Demanding the State government to resolve manifold problems, the Anganwadi workers and the assistants staged dharna in Dhakuakhona subdivision of Lakhimpur district on Friday. Staging the agitation programme in front of the Dhakuakhona Integrated Child Development Project office, the Anganwadi workers and the assistants demanded the government to appoint the qualified working assistants in the post of workers lying vacant for long time, to pay ex-gratia to the retired workers and the assistants and to provide them regular pension, to provide the Mini Anganwadi workers the same government facilities that the other Anganwadi workers and assistants are enjoying, to construct permanent building for the Anganwadi centres in order to privilege the workers and assistants to work in a healthy environment etc.

The agitators blocked the entrance of the said office for two hours. Significantly, Bidyut Prabha Phukan, the Child Development Project Officer and authorised Supervisor Anju Hazarika were not present in the office to receive the memorandum. Anganwadi Workers and Assistants’ Association president Kanaklata Hiloidari and secretary Dipali Das alleged that the head assistant of the office concerned received their memorandum without having any authority. It is known that only 3 supervisors out of 17 were present in the office on Friday. Thus the office is operational without regular presence of all responsible employees, alleged the local people.
