Animal Sacrifices Mark Astami Celebration in Tangla

TANGLA: The Purani Tangla Habigaon Sarbahanik Durga Devalaya situated on the outskirts of Tangla town in Udalguri district went ahead with the tradition of the sacrifice of animals on the Mahastami during the Durga Puja that concluded on Friday.

In sync with its tradition, the Mahastami on Wednesday devotees saw the sacrifices of goats, pigeons, ducks and buffaloes at the puja. Thousands of devotees throng the devalaya every year on Mahastami to witness the ritual of animal sacrifice, and this year was no exception. The six buffaloes, hundreds of goats and an uncountable number of pigeons and ducks were brought for sacrificial offering to the Goddess by devotees from various parts of the State. "The mandir was visited by devotees from far-flung places like Dhekiajuli, Bajali and Guwahati said," Purani Tangla Habigaon Sarbajanik Durga Utsav Committee president Santi Ram Rabha said. The animals were sacrificed by the devotees for the fulfilment of their wishes, he said.
