JOYSAGAR, April 9: North-East Frontier Railway Employees’ Union (NFREU), Sivasagar district committee’s 7th annual conference was held centrally in Simaluguri Railway Junction, Sivasagar on Sunday. On this occasion NFREU district president Md. Sahabuddin hoisted the flag of the union in the morning while district general secretary Dhanjit Patgiri lit the earthen lamp to pay homage to the freedom fighters of the country. An open session was also held on the occasion where All India Railway Employees’ Union central general secretary Comrade Rakhal Dasgupta  took part as the chief guest.
Dasgupta in his speech elaborated the changing circumstances in the free-trade era of the world and its impact in India and in various trade union movements. The Indian Railways is the prime public sector institution in the service sector of the country which is facing various challenges in recent times. As a result, the Union Government wants to privatize the Indian Railways but questions about the welfare of the workers and labourers may be sidelined, he said. Dasgupta urged the employees and labourers to work hard in order to make the Railways function better in the public sector pattern so as to foil any conspiracy to privatize the Railways.
