Another Terror Attack on India will be Problematic: US to Pakistan

Guwahati: The United States on Wednesday said to Pakistan that another terror attack on India will prove to be extremely problematic and asked them to take sustained, verifiable and irreversible action against the perpetrators of terrorism.

A senior official in the White House on Wednesday said, “We need to see Pakistan taking concrete and sustained action to reign in the terrorist groups especially the Jaish-e-Mohammad who recently carried out the terror attack in Pulwama and the Lashkar-e-Taiba in order to ensure that we don’t have re-escalation of tension in the region.”

The officials when asked about the steps being taken by Pakistan in the aftermath of the Balakot Air Strike by Indianj Fighter Jets, said that the United States and the international community needed to see irreversible and sustained action against the terror groups.

The official further said that Pakistan has taken some initial actions and have also frozen the assets of some terrorist groups and made some arrests but that is not enough and has to take more action against it. It also said that it’s early to make a full assessment. The official further added that Pakistan has taken administrative control of some of the JeM facilities but we need to clearly see more as what we have seen is that they made some arrests and then released those individuals after a few months. The terrorist leaders are still allowed to travel around the country and hold rallies.

The official further claims that America is working with its international partners to increase pressure on Pakistan because it has been too long that these groups have been able to operate.

The Financial Action Tasks Force (FATF) is one area which demonstrates the need for them to take these actions against the terror groups as the United States observed that Pakistan has economic concerns as well.

The senior administration official further asserted that the Choice is Pakistan’s whether they want to be viewed as a responsible international player and have access to all the financial mechanism that are available or is it going to continue to fail to take the necessary steps against the terrorist groups and see itself further isolated.

The Trump Administration has taken sort of a ‘Zero Tolerance Policy’ on the issue of safe havens to terrorists.

After the Pulwama Terror attack on February 14, the United States was in continuous contact with India and Pakistan officials both on the ground in New Delhi and Islamabad during the height of crises between February 26-28.
