GUWAHATI, June 10: Maj General Anta Bhuyan has risen to the level of a GOC in the army, a very competitive job that only 4 to 5 % officers make it to that position. He has been given the responsibility of GOC of Dinjan based ‘Dao Division’, Army sources said.

Bhuyan spent his early childhood at Sarthebari (then Kamrup district) before moving to Tangla and Guwahati. Had his desire of joining NDA, hence opted to join Sainik School Goalpara in 1972.

The last 32 years in the Army took him to all over the country. Saw the Icy Siachen Glaciers, challenging counter insurgency operations in J & K and Assam & the scorching heat of Thar desert. In recognition for his contributions, he was twice awarded with Army chief’s Commendation Card and prestigious Se Medal. His friends say, for Major General Anta Bhuyan, the success mantra is “Hard work & sincerity”, said a former Army official.
