Anti-Insurgency Operations: Army Major, 3 Jawans Martyred in Kashmir during special operations

Kashmir: In a major special forces operation in Kashmir, an Army major, three soldiers were martyred in Gurez area of north Kashmir while tackling insurgents who open fired at the forces.

According to sources, at least six additional terrorists are believed to be hidden in the area and the operation is still afoot.

Reports informed that the anti-insurgency encounter that was initiated after special forces traced suspicious movement in Gurez area close to LoC during Monday night. Insurgents were trying to infiltrate the region from across the border. After gunshots were heard by the Army, a full-scale operation was given go ahead.

As per official army sources, they told media that the terrorists tried to infiltrate from PoK Lauser, Sardari, Nusheranar, Durmat and that Pakistani Army also supported terrorist activities.

It may be mentioned that the region is of strategic importance due to its close proximity with Bandipora and Kishan Ganga Dam and is heavily guarded by the armed forces.

Reports also informed that the slain terrorists were identified as Umer Nazir Malik, Waqar Ahmad Sheikh, Aijaz Ahmad Paul, Arshad Ahmad Khan and Arif Ahmad Mir.
