Anundoram Borooah Award: 779 students from Cachar receive laptops

SILCHAR: The prestigious Aunundoram Barooah Awards 2018 were given away in Cachar district on Friday. The ceremonial distribution was held at the Police Parade Ground. Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, Laya Maduri, stated that this initiative of the State Government is facilitated by the Cachar district administration. As many as 779 students who had secured more than 75 per cent marks in the HSLC examination 2018, were given laptops. Twenty such students collected the laptops from former Union Minister Kabindra Purakayastha.

Purkayastha congratulated the students and urged them to keep their focus on their careers. MLA Dilip Paul attended the event as the guest of honour. He lauded the students and said a significant amount has been pumped into the education sector in the State Budget. MLA Aminul Haque Laskar and MLA Kishore Nath also spoke on the occasion. Earlier, Inspector of Schools Samina Yesmin Ara delivered the welcome address and said the award distribution, which started in 2005, has inspired the students to register commendable results.
