Doomdooma, April 8: United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) commander-in-chief Paresh Barua may also join the peace talk if it was honourable, said ULFA general secretary Anup Chetia while addressing the martyrs’ families in connection with observance of the 39th raising day of the outfit at Kakapather on Saturday.

Chetia, who hoisted the flag at their main desigted camp based at Kakapather, asserted that he was hopeful about Paresh Barua joining the peace talk, provided the proposed talk of the Government of India with the pro-talk faction of the outfit progressed honourably. In his address just after offering tribute to the martyrs by self-styled colonel Antu Chaudang and presidential address by SS Major Prabal Neog, he clarified that under no circumstance it would accept the proposal of the Central Government to rehabilitate the Hindu Bangladeshis in Assam nor it would go to New Delhi to participate in the meeting convened by the government to determine the definition of the Assamese. Instead, the meeting should be held in Assam, he said.

Chetia further demanded Rs 5 lakh ex gratia for the martyrs’ families of ULFA, just like the government had given to the martyrs’ families of the Assam Movement. The day-long programme came to an end with a volleyball competition.
