RANGIA, Jan 7: Nearly 700 aggrieved workers, both casual and regular, of Assam Polyester Operative Limited (APOL) Mill, one of the famous mills of the Northeast located at Tulsibari near Rangia, protested against the APOL mill administration on Saturday at the mill premises for non-release of their monthly salary for the last six months. They have demanded release of their pending salary before Magh Bihu.
The deprived workers vented their anger and flayed the APOL authority for its lackadaisical attitude towards releasing their monthly salary despite assurance given by the latter. “We were assured that our salary for the last five months would be released by December 31 last year, but all in vain. Now even Magh Bihu is approaching but the authority continues to lend a deaf ear to our sufferings and pain,” said the office bearers of APOL workers’ union and urged early intervention of the government department concerned to take necessary action for release of their due salary at the earliest
Following non-functioning of the weaving and processing units of APOL Mill for the last 13 years, at present only the spinning section is functiol where nearly 700 workers are working.
