Apollo ties up with State government

SHILLONG, May 17: Apollo Groups of Hospital has entered into an agreement with the Meghalaya Government to implement the Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS), whose sole objective was to provide health insurance to all residents of the State. The decision of the State Government to rope in Apollo Group of Hospitals in its noble venture is expected to benefit the residents of the state especially those belonging to the lower income group who do not have the fincial resources to avail treatment in a multi specialty hospital like Apollo. “The beneficiaries of MHIS can avail the advance treatment in the Apollo Hospital as per package fixed by the Government,” Vice president of Business Development (Apollo Gleneagles Hospital), Somth Bhattacharjee told jourlists here on Tuesday. Bhattarcharjee has come from Gleneagles Hospital, Kolkata along with three specialist doctors including Dr. Suvro Banerjee, Consultant Interventiol Cardiologist, Dr B K Singhania, Consultant Neuro & Spine Surgeon and Dr. Shankar Loharuka, Consultant Neurologist for the “Super Speciality OPDs” which was held at Shillong Civil Hospital today. He also informed that the package which has been agreed upon with the State Government does not cover emergency cases. He said that the doctors from various hospitals of Apollo Groups would be coming to the State on a regular basis. According to him, they are going to organise Super Speciality OPD’s in various district headquarters besides Shillong. He said that the three doctors have seen more than 350 plus patients during their first ever “Super Speciality OPDs”. Bhattcharjee said that the doctors during their OPD’s have come across a number of persons who are suffering from congenital diseases.
