Armed Forces Tribunal Striving Towards Welfare of Defence Personnel

GUWAHATI: The Armed forces Tribunal, Regional Bench, Guwahati is planning to organize legal awareness campaigns whenever feasible, amongst the retired as well as serving Armed forces personnel, their dependents, heirs and successors so that the person aggrieved in relation to their service matters may take the benefits of the act. The main objective of organising such campaigns is to make the armed force personnels aware of the provisions of the Act as well as their rights under the act. The Regional Bench of armed Forces Tribunal, Guwahati has jurisdiction within the territorial limits of the States of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim.

With an aim to provide speedy and less expensive justice to the members of Armed Forces of the Union of India for the adjudication of disputes and complaints with respect to their service related matters and also provide for appeals arising out of the orders, findings or sentences of Court Martial held under the said acts and for matters connected therewith, the Armed Forces Tribunal Bill had been passed by both the houses of Parliament and it came on the statute book as Armed Forces Tribunal Act,2007.

The Central Government has established 11 benches of the Armed Forces Tribunal across the country with its Principal Bench at New Delhi. The Regional Bench of Armed Forces Tribunal, Guwahati has been functioning as a Division Bench comprising of two judges.
