Joysagar, May 20: The Charaideo Police arrested three arms smugglers from the Assam-Nagaland border area Namtula on Saturday evening. Police launched an operation in Namtula Nepalibasti on Saturday evening and were able to apprehend Niti Kanyak (21), Yungpng Kanyak (22) and Abidur Rahman (25). The arrested persons are arms dealers and police recovered one .22 pistol, one magazine of AK series rifle, five bullet covers and six mobile phones from their possession.

Two other persons were able to flee during the police operation. Sources also said that these illegal arms dealers were also involved in many extortion cases allegedly using the name of ULFA (I) and NSCN. Police brought all the accused to Sonari Sadar Police Station where they were being interrogated by top officers for more information, added sources.

Meanwhile, during the Saturday evening operation, a Sub-Inspector of Sonari Police Station, Rajiv Das received bullet injuries and was shifted to Sonari Civil Hospital for treatment.
