Guwahati, March 17: In a joint operation, conducted by Goalpara based Army troops of Agia Brigade under the aegis of Red Horns Division and Meghalaya police, two hardcore militants of Achik Matgrik Elite Force (AMEF) were killed in a fierce encounter, which lasted for a couple of hours in the wee hours today in the dense jungles of Meghalaya.
The slain militants have been identified as Akhi Momin and Selba Sangma.
One factory made pistol, two single shot rifles, three live rounds, a sharp weapon and other war like stores were recovered during the operation.
The operation was launched on specific intelligence input provided by Gajraj Corps Intelligence unit regarding presence of four to five AMEF militants in a camp in the general area of Petchong Jonksi in North Garo Hills district of Meghalaya. The area lies along the Assam-Meghalaya border, neighboring Goalpara district of lower Assam. While approaching the camp, five to six terrorists were encountered. The terrorist when challenged fired indiscrimitely at the Army troops. In retaliatory fire, two of the militants were killed.
