Army rescues stranded tourists in Sikkim

GUWAHATI: The Army on Wednesday carried out a rescue operation in spite of snow blizzard and evacuated around 300 stranded tourists, which included women, children and elderly, to safety near Changgu and adjoining areas of East Sikkim. As per reports, around 50 to 60 vehicles in which the tourists were travelling in got stranded due to heavy snow fall in the region. The tourists were transported 17 miles from Changgu in Army vehicles and subsequently dropped in Gangtok.
