Arunachal Pradesh Chief Secretary Satya Gopal: Legal Provisions To Detect Illegal Immigrants

OUR CORRESPONDENT

ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Secretary Satya Gopal has reiterated that nobody should take the law into their hands or act in a manner which is in contravention of legal provisions while detecting and detaining illegal immigrants in the State.

“In such cases action shall be taken by the district law enforcing authorities against the lawbreakers,” Gopal said in a statement on Monday. In view of the recent publication of the final draft of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam, the State government recently directed the deputy commissioner and the director general of police (DGP) to take measures to check entry of illegal immigrants into the State. They have been instructed to check all entry points, including airports, railway stations and all other relevant entry points, to carry out stringent checks of inner line permits as per the provisions of the law. The DGP has also issued instructions in this regard to the districts, and the DCs and SPs are carrying out regular and stringent ILP checking drives in their jurisdictions, informed the CS.

Earlier, on August 3 last, representatives of the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) had met with the chief secretary and held discussions regarding checking and preventing entry of illegal immigrants into the state. Representatives of the AAPSU were informed that they should provide requisite information about any illegal migrant(s) to the respective SPs and DCs of the concerned districts, as legal action has to be taken by the district authorities and the Arunachal Pradesh Police against illegal migrant(s) as per existing rules and laws prescribed in this regard.
