ASDMA Conducted Mock Drills On Earthquake Disaster

GUWAHATI: The Disaster Management Authority of Kamrup Metro district and National Disaster Management Authority in collaboration with Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on Thursday conducted mock drills on earthquake disaster management at different places in the city.

The mock drills took place at Pantaloons shopping mall at Dispur, Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital at Pan Bazar, the office of Commissioner of Lower Assam Division at Pan Bazar and Prag Jyotish Housing complex at Bhetapara

An earthquake scenario was recreated at 10 am and on receipt of the information the Responsible Office (DC) activated the Incident Response System (IRS) and all members of the district Incident Response Team (IRT) assembled at the DC office. All rescue and relief teams were mobilized from the staging area at Latasil Field and deployed for rescue and relief operations. Ambulances and fire tenders were mobilized as per requirement. Response teams from police, civil defence, NDRF, SDRF/ Fire Services, Army, SSB were engaged for rescue and evacuation efforts.

Traffic was regulated and police personnel deployed for law and order. A hot wash or review was also conducted later in the day. Emergency response incident command post controls the system from the DC office.

Deputy Commissioner (In-Charge) of Kamrup Metro Dr Bijoya Choudhury handled the entire drill from office. Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi and State minister for revenue and disaster management Bhabesh Kalita were present and inspected the programme at Pantaloon shopping mall.
