GUWAHATI: Despite being an ally of the BJP at Dispur, the AGP is going to stage a huge protest rally in Guwahati on Tuesday in protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016. The protest by the regional party coincides with the JPC’s {Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill} crucial meeting on the Bill in New Delhi on October 23, 2018. A team of the regional party leaders met JPC chairman Rajendra Agarwal at Meerut in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday again and requested him to cancel the Bill.

In the morning on Tuesday, the AGP is going to hold a meeting at Latasil playground from where it is going to take out a rally up to Chandmari.

Significantly, the 46 organizations that have called a 12-hour Assam bandh on Tuesday have exempted AGP leaders, cadres and vehicles carrying them from the purview of the bandh so as to make the protest a success.

Talking to the media, AGP president Atul Bora said: “We’ve already made our stand clear on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill. Under no circumstances, we’re going to support the Bill. We’ll fight the Bill till the end.”
