Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) Stages Protest in Assam's Jhanji Against Construction of Road

FROM A CORRESPONDENT

GAURISAGAR, July 20: Jhanji regional committee of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) has strongly protested against the construction of Jhanji Bamun Gaon Naamghar Path under Morabazar Goan Panchayat (GP) of Gaurisagar Development Block in Sivasagar. Notably, the committee alleged that keeping aside deplorable roads of the GP, the panchayat was planning to construct a road leading to 4 residents at a cost of Rs 3.75 lakh.

A press release issued by Saurav Baruah and Dhruba Saikia, president and secretary respectively of the committee, stated that during 2017-2018 financial year the GP had initiated construction of that road under MGNREGA scheme. But surprisingly no approval was obtained in the Gaon Sabha meeting, they alleged. Having no option, on August 14, 2017 the committee submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, Sivasagar to call off the construction work. But the district administration did not respond. On August 16, the committee made a similar representation to the DC to stop the work and also threatened to launch an agitation if the demand was not met within 10 days. It is now about a year since the matter has lingered on without a solution in sight.
