Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad Burns Effigies of Prime Minister, Chief Minister and National Hydroelectric Power Corporation

LAKHIMPUR: The activists of the North Lakhimpur regional body of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) on Thursday burnt the effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and NHPC in North Lakhimpur town for the Lower Subansiri Hydro Electric Project (LSHEP).

By initiating the protest, the organization reiterated its demand to close the LSHEP. It is alleged that the NHPC authority is about to complete the construction of the controversial big river dam secretly by resuming its construction taking the advantage of the silence of the anti-big dam organization during the past days. Thus, the power generating corporation has violated the verdict of the Green Tribunals with regard to reviewing the construction of the project. The organization strongly demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to close the project immediately.
