Assam BJP President Ranjit Dass says India will be a 'Gau Rashtra' in 7 Years

Guwahati: In yet another statement that is likely to stoke a controversy, Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Assam unit President Ranjeet Kumar Dass on Monday said that India will become a "gau rashtra" or a "cow nation" by 2025.

On been asked by the media about the letter sent by the United Nations (UN) to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, raising concern about the fate of Bengali Muslims in Assam after the publication of the NRC on 30 June, the Assam BJP chief said there was no need to be worried about the process, adding that India is going to become a "gau rashtra" by 2025.

The Assam BJP chief has a history of making a series of controversial statements, including one last year in which he compared the tri-colour of the National Flag with a vest.

The NRC is being updated in Assam as per the Assam Accord signed in 1985 between the Government of India and representatives of the All Assam Students Union (AASU), after a six-year-long movement against illegal immigration, popularly known as the Assam Movement.
