Assam Budget 2019: Himanta Biswa Sarma woos the lower middle classes

Guwahati: Finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, introducing a budget mainly focused on the areas of capital expenditure and social security, have mainly targeted to provide financial aid to the lower classes of the society whose annual income is below Rs.5 lakh.

Sarma, elated to have present the 4th budget of the state for the fiscal year 2019-20, starts his budget speech paying tributes to Vaishnavite saint of Assam, Srimanta Sankardev: ‘Itu Bitupon, Dharma Sanatan Aakexe Kirtan, Kore Sdhujon.’

There are 18 key initiatives adopted by the BJP government in Assam which is also being termed as “Astadash Mukutar Unnoyonee Maala” (18 pearls of the chain of growth). The initiatives include-

After presenting the Assam Budget for the financial year 2019-20, Sarma took to Twitter to further give an expanded look into each of the schemes that he introduced in the assembly. Speaking about the Asom Adarsha Gram Yojana, Darma said that they will focus on ensuring last mile delivery and holistic development of villages by implementing existing schemes, creating access to basic services, improving infrastructure, reducing economic disparities and enhancing the quality of living.

The State Finance minister also narrated about the ‘Tejasvi Navadhitamastu Edu Infra Fund’ which was adopted in Budget 2017-18 and under this scheme, the government is looking for the development of professional colleges and universities.

Sarma further stated that under the Uberisation of ASTC scheme, the state government intends to put 1000 new buses on roads over next 3 years.
