Assam celebrated 5th International Yoga Day in a befitting manner

Dibrugarh: The 5th International Yoga Day (IYD) was also celebrated by the Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BCPL) and Dibrugarh Airport Authorities. The celebration at BCPL was held at its township, at Lepetkata on Friday in a grand way by taking up various activities. A yoga session was organized today morning where different asanas/postures of yoga were demonstrated by invited yoga instructors. Significant numbers of employees along with their family members actively participated in the programme. Various ‘asanas’ were also exhibited by yoga instructor explaining its importance and benefits to the participants. Pruthiviraj Dash, Director (Finance) and P. Nagesh, Chief Operating Officer of the company were also present during the session. Various competitions like online quiz, slogan writing, poster making, article writing etc. were organized for employees, children to create awareness on yoga practice.

Banners were displayed in various locations on the theme of International Day of Yoga in order to spread awareness of yoga. In addition to this, leaflets were distributed to all the contractual workers of BCPL where the importance and benefits of yoga was highlighted.

Dibrugarh Airport Authority also celebrated the day at the airport premises. Professional yoga instructors were invited to conduct a session on yoga practices and also to enlighten the employees of Dibrugarh Airport about the benefits of yoga. There was participation from all the stakeholders of AAI, which included CISF, Airlines.

Silchar: The district administration organized the 5th International Yoga Day at India Club Indoor stadium in Silchar with a large number of participants. Yogic exercises were conducted by many participants. The programme began with lighting of the auspicious lamp by Deputy Commissioner of Cachar Laya Madduri. Importance was laid on the benefits of performing yogic exercises. An important part of the day was the felicitation of young boys and girls who showed excellence in demonstrating their yogic exercises. They were given certificates and medals. Prime Minister Narendra Modi enlisted June 21 as International Yoga Day by the UNO. It is a matter of pride and glory for our country that across the globe in almost all the countries including Islamic nations, Yoga Day is observed and the yogic exercises are practised by the people of those countries. The day was also enthusiastically observed by the district administration of Karimganj and Hailakandi in both urban and rural areas.

Members of the NGO Chotto Prochesta organized a camp at Bharakhai High School which started at 7.00 am which was followed by enlightening addresses by various guests who included the principal of the School, Uttam Kumar Singh, the president of the governing body of the School, Jawaharlal Rai, the director of NYKS, Shaswati Deb, the advisor of the NGO, Bikramjit Chakraborty, Pradip Kurmi, member of NYKS, Rahim Uddin Laskar and the member of NCC, A K Nath.

Later, yoga trainers Kalpita Nath and Saurav Nath performed various yogic exercises on a stage. The importance and value of such yogic exercise were explained in details by yoga teacher Buddhadeb Purkayastha. Ashim Kumar Das of NITS and Shubobrato Dutta of AUS laid stress on performing yogic exercises. They spoke at length about the significance of this day and also advised all to practice. All present were taught the benefits of performing yoga.

Hailakandi: The 5th International Day of Yoga was observed in a grand manner in Hailakandi district. At a central function held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office premises here on Friday, Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli kickstarted the celebrations by lighting the traditional lamp. In her brief address, DC Jalli urged the people irrespective of caste, creed or religion to make yoga an intrinsic part of their lives. DC Jalli, senior officials of the administration, security personnel, leading citizens, high and higher secondary school students, National Cadet Corps, NGOs, sports clubs and organisations participated in the morning yoga session under the able guidance of yoga demonstrator Parimal Paul. Yoga practitioners from Patanjali, Hailakandi unit and others performed asanas on the makeshift dias.

Around 500 people took part in the event that lasted for close to an hour. The administration made all necessary arrangements at the ground, including pandal, drinking water, yoga mat, tarpaulin, sound system and light, besides security. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech at Ranchi was televised on a screen. The day was also marked by various events at the five development blocks and gaon panchayat level across the district. Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan organized the District Youth Convention and observance of International Yoga Day in association with Mahila Patanjali Yog Samiti, Patanjali Yog Samiti and Hailakandi District Yoga Association at Town Hall in Hailakandi town. Rotary Club also observed the day with varied events.

DEMOW: Along with the rest of the country, the 5th International Day of Yoga was observed in Demow College Indoor Stadium on Friday. Kushal Dowari, MLA of Thowra Constituency, Manuroma Morang, Demow Circle Officer, Bihangi Bhagawati Das, BDO, Dipika Kakoty Dowari, Treasurer of BJP Mahila Morcha, Sivasagar, ITBP Jawans along with other dignitaries took part in the programme. The yoga practice was done from 6 am to 8 am.

LAKHIMPUR: Along with the other parts of the globe, the International Yoga Day was observed in Lakhimpur by the district administration and various organizations and the academic institutions. The district administration observed the day at the indoor stadium of North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) in association with District Health Society, IYNS and Sewa Bharati.

The programme organized on this occasion, under the management of AYUSH Nodal Officer Dr. Sashi Sonowal, kicked off with the lighting of ceremonial lamp by Lakhimpur Deputy Commissioner Dr. Jeevan B. In the programme, ADC Utpal Borah, Joint Director Dr. Harpal Singh Suri, North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) principal Dr. Biman Chandra Chetia were felicitated. BTC principal Narayan Doley and Dr Chandan Kumar Medhi spoke on the importance yoga while yoga instructor Munindra Neog and Disha Hazarika and Dristi Borah conducted the yoga practice. A competition event of yogasana was also organised on the occasion where Dristi Borah, Hirak Jyoti Dutta and Bikash Ranjan Sarmah bagged first, second and third prizes respectively. In addition, all the organizations under the Marwari society also observed the day concluding the weeklong yoga camp organized since June 14. These organizations took out a yoga awareness rally in North Lakhimpur town.
