Assam Celebrities including Zubeen Garg, Rima Das openly opposes Citizenship Bill

Guwahati:

Ever since the context of the Citizenship Bill occurred, Assamese people including the noted and renown personalities expressed their strong opposition for the bill. Some of the noted personalities among them include intellectual Dr. Hiren Gohain, singer Zubeen Garg, filmmaker Rima Das and so on who made their opinions protesting the citizenship bill and requested the government not to impose it.

Assam singing sensation Zubeen Garg, before this, had even written an open letter to the Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal wherein he asked the CM not to implement the bill in Assam. He also warned that if the government does not pay heed to his request then there will be dire consequences and strong protests by him.

Zubeen Garg, after one week of his threatening to launch an agitation against the government, appears again to keep his promise. Zubeen, who is more like a heartthrob of the young generation of the state, has an uncountable fan following who are always ready to join their favourite singer on one call. In this situation, if Zubeen asks his fans to join him in the protest, the condition will certainly be out of control for the state government.

The song sung by him entitles Sokolure Ananda Sarbananda, (Sarbananda: everyone's happiness) that was used as BJP Assam's official campaign song. Garg now says that he is "ready to refund the remuneration", but also asks the government, "Can I get the votes back that you earned using my voice in 2016?"

Noted Assamese filmmaker and the winner of many national and international awards lately, Rima Das too took to Facebook and expressed her opposition to the Bill. She, in her Facebook post, opposing the Bill, hashtagged LoveMyLand and LoveMyPeople.
