STAFF REPORTER

Guwahati: The Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU) has achieved yet another feat after the University is awarded the much coveted ‘University of the Year’ Award by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).

The award was given to the university at the 14th FICCI Higher Education Summit 2018: A Global Conference & Exhibition held in New Delhi on October 30. The ADBU received the prestigious award among all the universities in India, which are in existence for one to ten years.

R Subrahmanyam, Secretary-Higher Education, MHRD, Government of India, gave away the 5th FICCI Higher Education Excellence Awards to 13 Educational Institutions and eminent personalities in the field of education. The award recognizes the achievements of educational institutions and personalities that have contributed to the development of the sector in the country. The award was received by the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Fr Joseph Nellanatt on behalf of the University.

“It is indeed a proud moment for our university. Our University has also received a Certificate of Special mention for Institutional Social Commitment. At Don Bosco University, We want to make Social Commitment as our institutional distinctiveness,” said Fr Joseph Nellanatt.

“If we compare the national scenario of literacy, at least 20 percent of our population cannot read and write. Only ten percent of the country’s total population has passed Class X. So, we believe, it is our responsibility on the part of the University to contribute to the society,” Fr Nellanatt said. He said the ADBU is already engaged in significant activities in the university’s neighborhood. “It is our commitment to ensuring that the villages located near our university also develop as our university develops,” he said. Established in 1927, FICCI is the largest and oldest apex business organization in India.
