Assam Emerge Champions In National Lawn Bowls

GUWAHATI: Hosts Assam emerged champion in the 7th National and 3rd Under-25 Lawn Bowls Championship which ended yesterday at Sarusajai Sports Complex Green in the city. Assam bagged six Gold, five Silver and two Bronze medals.

Jharkhand followed in the second position with six gold, four silver and two bronze medals. The tables include a gold each for Assam and Jharkhand in under-25 boys and girls singles. Arunachal Pradesh pair of Deepjyoti Kalita and Adinita Kakati won the mixed pairs title defeating Assam tandem of Bitupan Rabha and Anwesha Bora on Thursday.

On the last day when mixed event finals were held Jharkhand bagged gold in all the three — mixed pairs, mixed triples and mixed fours. The Jharkhand team also bagged the women’s fours gold.

Assam won three silver and two bronze on the last day.

Earlier in the tournament, Assam won gold in men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s pairs, women’s triples and under-25 boys’ singles.

Award ceremony was attended by Bowling Federation of India Secretary General Lokinder Singh and its Treasurer KV Rathi. Lawn Bowling Association, Assam President Durgadas Boro appealed to the national federation to encourage hosting of more and more open tournaments apart from the Nationals in the country, apart from encouraging the players participate in various tournaments abroad.
