Assam finally register victory in Vijay Hazare

GUWAHATI: Assam, rode on a good team effort, thrashed Tripura by 8 wickets in the Vijay Hazare Cricket tournament in Chennai today.

The highlight of the game were two nice spells from two experience pacers Arup Das (3-25) and Abu Nechim Ahmed (3-35) followed by two good knocks from Riyan Parag (82) and Rishav Das (87no).

Elected to bat, Tripura today bowled out 209 in 40.1 overs. Opener B Ghosh (100, 134 balls, 4X8, 6X1) scored century and only because of this innings Tripura managed to reach 200 in this game.

Arup Das (3-25) and Abu Nechim Ahmed (3-35) picked up three wickets each. Riyan Parag and Mrinmoy Dutta collected 2 wickets each giving away identical 37 runs.

Assam although lost opener Avijit Singha Roy (6) early but it didn’t create any problem in the chase as both opener Riyan and Rishav, who came into bat in place of Avijit, nicely negotiate the bowlers of Tripura. The duo added 104 runs on second-wicket which built the foundation of victory. Riyan got out on his individual score 82. The batsman faced 81 balls to score those runs with the help of 7 boundaries and two sixes.

Later Rishav pairing with Avishek Thakuri, took Assam to home. The not out pair added 72 runs on the third wickets. Rishav’s unbeaten 87 runs came in 122 balls and there were seven boundaries in his innings. Avishek remained not out on 31.

With this victory Assam collected four points from the game but they are still at the bottom of the table with 8 points.
