Assam Governor & CM Sarbananda Sonowal Celebrates Yoga- India’s Wonderful Gift To The World

GUWAHATI: Raj Bhavan, Assam joins with the rest of the world in celebrating the International Day of Yoga at its premises here on Friday morning.

Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi said, “Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition and it embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. He also said, ‘Yoga is not only about exercise but discovering the sense of oneness within oneself. By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, yoga can help in increasing our wellbeing”. He also reiterated that “Yoga has been a part of the Indian culture since time immemorial. Our ancient sages used to perform yoga. However, in present times personalities like Baba Ramdev have popularized it and took yoga to every household.’ He also said that daily practice of yoga can keep a person free from diseases and promote good health mentally and physically.

The first lady Prem Mukhi, noted film artistes Pranjal Saikia, Poornima Saikia and Mr World 2018, Mr India 2017-18, Mr Asia 2018 Golap Rabha participated in the celebrations. Members from Byatikram Masdo, Bharat Scouts and Guides, Marwari Sammelan Guwahati Mahila Shakha, State Sustainable Development Goals, JCI Guwahati Angels, Confederation of Indian Industry, Marwari Yuva Mancha, Akhil Bharatiya Marwari Mahila Samiti, Terapanth, CRPF personnel, Directorate of Sports and all other officers and staff of Raj Bhavan participated in the celebrations.

Yoga can go long way in strengthening peace and tranquillity, friendship and brotherhood in the society. Yoga can also maintain equilibrium between a good physical and mental health. Therefore, yoga has attained immense popularity throughout the globe. These were the observations of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal while speaking on the occasion of the fifth International Day of Yoga centrally organized at Sarusajai Sports Complex here on Friday morning.

Chief Minister Sonowal said that in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal in the United Nations’ General Assembly to all the nations to recognise International Day of Yoga, the world celebrates 21 June every year as the International Day of Yoga. He also appealed to the people of the state to take a pledge on the occasion to fortify friendship and camaraderie among the people belonging to Barak, Brahmaputra, hills and plains. Sonowal also said that yoga can play a crucial role in building a society based on the high moral ground and social conscientiousness. Emphasizing on generating awareness in every nook and corner of the society on the good affects of yoga, Sonowal said that yoga can help in developing physically and mentally energized personality and can help in wiping out all superstitions from all sections of the society. Legal Advisor of Chief Minister Santanu Bharali, Chief Secretary Alak Kumar, Director General of Police Kuladhar Saikia, Director of AYUSH Monalisha Goswami, Police Commissioner Dipak Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup Metro Biswajit Pegu and a host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
