Assam Nagrik Mancha Accuses Bharatiya Janata Party in Assam as 'anti-Bengali'

The NRC issue in Assam is not over yet and lately, the Assam Nagarik Mancha members have come up to accuse the BJP government in the state of being "anti-Bengali". They are, however, demanding for a new NRC with the voter list of 2014 being the benchmark.

The NRC final draft that was released on July 30th in Assam, omitted the names of 40 lakh people in the state. This non-inclusion of names in the final draft has created quite a roar as apart from the illegal immigrants, some such families are also there that are the permanent residents of the state but are unable to find their names in the list.

The General Secretary of the Mancha, Bijay Chakraborty, said, "The BJP government in Assam is anti-Bengali. It wants to remove Bengalis from Assam."

He further added, "The BJP came to power with the votes of these people and now all of a sudden they have become foreigners. We will never allow BJP to divide India on the basis of communal lines. We demand that a new NRC should be published with the voter list of 2014 being the benchmark."

Chakraborty further said that the BJP government is actually targeting the Bengalis who have been living in Assam for the several decades.
