Assam Police detains deceased SBI Service Manager's driver for questioning, FIR Lodged

Guwahati: In a major development to the sensational murder incident of the Service Manager of SBI Dadara Branch, Junu Sarmah, Chandmari Police had detained one Pranab Kalita under suspicion. As per reports, Kalita is the driver of the deceased Service Manager who was shot on Tuesday evening by two bike borne assailant at Agyathuri area in Kamrup.

Speaking to The Sentinel, one of the Police officials not willing to be named informed that driver Kalita had past criminal records and was accused of murdering a person in the year 2009.

It is to be noted that Service Manager Junu Sharmah was shot from a close range on Tuesday evening by two bike-borne assailants. Reportedly, she and her driver was the resident of Nizarapar in Chandmari area.

OC Chandmari, Biren Chandra Deka told The Sentinel, “Both the miscreants were wearing a helmet when they broke the window pane of her car bearing registration number AS-O1-AG-6869 and shot her at the gunpoint from a very close range. She died on the spot. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, but was declared dead thereafter.”

OC Deka also informed that driver Kalita was working as driver of Dy Manager since last two months.

An FIR (No 192/09) was lodged against Kalita as well.

Also, the mother of the deceased Service Manager claimed before the media that driver is the main culprit behind the murder incident and alleged that he had past criminal records.

It may further be mentioned that there are reports surfacing in the media that driver Kalita had slowed down the car near the shootout spot.

She was shot in the neck when a bullet of a 9mm pistol flew through her car window. The bullet was recovered from the back seat of her car.

OC Deka informed that police had also summoned the brother of the deceased Service Manager Junu Sharmah for questioning on Tuesday. However, there is no link as such stated the police official.

Meanwhile, DGP, Assam Police, Kuladhar Saikia on Wednesday stated before the media that they are suspecting it to be a pre-planned assassination of the Service Manager Junu Sharmah and claimed further there might be different angles behind the murder incident which they are looking into.

Furthermore, State Bank of India Officers Association (North Eastern Circle), one of the largest Officers’ Organizations in North Eastern Region, having a membership of around 4000 officers strongly denounces the barbaric killing of its member Junu Sarma, the Service Manager of SBI Dadara Branch.
