Assam Police Keeping Tabs On Social Media

GUWAHATI: The Assam Police has noticed that a section of organizations, in the guise of some social organizations, has been using social media to sub-serve their hidden and inimical agenda. Such organizations, according to the police, have their own pages on Facebook and other social media outlets through which they extend helping hands to their fellow beings.

According to a source, the State police force has been examining the social media groups and their motives. According to the source, such groups keep feeding their target sects various social activities, besides provoking them to get their purpose served.

The members of these organizations have further garnered support from several people. However, the cyber sleuths of the State police are keeping an eagle’s eye on such activities.

It may be mentioned that Assam Police is keeping tabs on fundamentalists working in the guise of social organizations. Referring to the purported threat of fundamentalists to the Kamakhya temple, especially with the Ambubasi Mela commencing in June, the source said, “The administration and security forces are maintaining a vigil. Already a meeting has been held with temple administration, and a detailed security blueprint was drawn up.”

Asking the masses to remain alert, the official said, “Any suspicious movement or activity by anyone should be immediately reported to the police. The alert public can forestall any activity aimed at fomenting trouble.”
