GUWAHATI, July 24: The cash-for-job scam in the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) has already started having its offshoots, leading to the arrest of an advocate and a businessman who are now in police remand. This is an example as to how corruption gets multiplied.

Advocate Sailendra Kumar Sharma Baruah and businessman Surajit Choudhury were arrested on Sunday night on the charge of 'making attempts to influence the judiciary by way of paying cash for obtaining bail order illegally of arrested accused persons' in the cash-for-job scam in the APSC. The investigators have found that ‘accused Surajit Choudhury and Sailendra Kumar Sharma Baruah were adopting illegal means and ways to influence the judiciary by way of paying cash for obtaining bail order for the arrested accused persons’. In this connection, Dibrugarh Police has already obtained necessary technical and other evidences. Advocate Sailendra was the main middleman who acted on behalf of other arrested accused persons in the scam. In the eye of the investigators, the duo has been arrested for their involvement in manipulating court order and delivering pecuniary (monetary) benefits by them.

In the eye of the investigators, APS Kabita Das, who was also arrested on Sunday, got her job by means of malpractices and illegal means.
