Assam qualify for knock out round

GUWAHATI, Dec 27: The match between Assam and Bengal in the Vijay Merchant Cricket Tourment came to an end as a draw at Bokakhat today. However home team could win the game if most of their batsmen didn’t fail second time in the match. Chasing 132 runs to win Assam lost wickets on regular interval and were 106-7 in their second innings when match came to an end today. Riyan Parag (27) was the top scorer while Jitumoni Kalita (22) and Amlanjyoti Das 21 (no) were the other major contributors. Earlier a splendid magnificent spell from Gunjan Deka helped Assam to restrict Bengal to paltry 100 in their second innings. Gunjan, who bowled 12 overs in the innings, picked up 5 wickets for 26 runs. With this draw Assam earned a valuable points which helped them to earn a berth in the knock out stage from East Zone along with Jharkhand.
