Assam Rifles shoot dead 2 UDLF (O) militants

SILCHAR, April 9: As the UDLF militants continue to flex their muscles and create troubles along Assam-Mizoram-Tripura border areas, terrorizing the innocent people by shooting them down or indulging in extortions as well as kidppings, 27 Assam Rifles have to launch operations in the troubled zone. Their operations have also been the demand of people in general who have to spend sleepless nights due to the mecing activities of the militants.

 In fact, a permanent security outpost manned by Assam Rifles at Ratabari in the insurgency prone zone was set up. But, after some time, it was withdrawn. So long the security post was there, the extremists maintained low profile. Under public demand, the setting up of the post again is under the active consideration of the Union Home Department. In the meantime, however, 27 Assam Rifles launched an operation last Monday on specific information against the extremists on prowl.

 In the operation, two hardcore militants of United Democratic Liberation Front (O) were killed in an encounter with security forces and a huge cache of arms and ammunition were recovered  from their possessions. The operation was carried out near Sopur in the district of Karimganj, bordering Mizoram.

 A defence spokesman said the forces recovered an AK-47, one shot gun (double barrel) with lot of war like stores. The slain terrorists include general secretary and vice-president of the outfit, Sisumani Reang. Ratabari Police confirmed other militants as Norendro Reang. According to civil populace, UDLF (O) have been harassing them for a long time. People belonging to all sections of the area expressed their gratitude and thankfulness to Assam Rifles for elimiting the hardcore militants and for restoring peace and normalcy in the troubled zone.
