Assam take on Punjab from today

GUWAHATI, Feb 2: Assam will face Punjab in the quarter fil of the Ranji trophy cricket Tourment at Valsad from tomorrow. Assam made good performance in the earlier matches and finished third in Group ‘A’. The side will try to continue their good performance in the quarter fil also. Assam, lead by Gokul Sarma, played some good cricket in the group stages. Their performance so far has been based on some superb work by new-ball pair Krish Das (44 wickets) and Arup Das (21 wickets) who consistently delivered throughout the meet. With the bat, Arun Karthik towered above his teammates with 723 runs. J Syed Mohammed, with 18 wickets and 231 runs, also played a key role.

Punjab on the other hand finished second to Mumbai in Group B with 26 points, winning three, losing two and drawing three. The side will get huge boost in the quarter fils as Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh and Gurkeerat Mann decided to play in this game after their return from Australia. Trio was the part of India’s 3-0 whitewash of Australia in the Twenty20 series.
