MANGALDAI: The Assamese month of Bhado is regarded as the most auspicious month and every naamghar in the State performs the Bhado Mohiya naam prasanga every day. Crossing the geographical barrier, this naam prasanga has begun in New Delhi as per traditional rituals. The Assamese community residing in NCR has taken up the initiative to organize the Bhado Mohiya Naam Prasanga this year. Asom Xatra Mahaxabha of Delhi is the torchbearer in organizing this holy event in New Delhi.

A worthy son of Assam, Major General Ananta Bhuyan has been playing the key role in organizing this event regularly in New Delhi. Major General Bhuyan, currently serving as the Additional Director General of Rashtriya Rifles, lives in the Delhi Cantonment area and on the first day of the Assamese month of Bhado, his residence was filled with the sounds of khol, bhor taal, nagara and hymns of Kirtan Ghoxa.

“I want to give the glimpse of the highly rich Assamese culture to our next generation and few of my non-Assamese friend army officers living in the Delhi Cantonment area. We feel so close to our birthplace Assam by listening and taking part in the naam prasanga,” said Major General Bhuyan while talking to The Sentinel over the phone. Besides his family members and relatives, other prominent persons to take part in the event were Major General Rana Pratap Kalita (Additional Director General (Ceremonial and Welfare) in army Headquarters and his family, and the family of Major General Bhaskar Kalita (GOC of Likabali Division), among others.

Major General Bhuyan gave all credit to Abhijit Mahanta of Asom Xatra Mahaxabha who painstakingly had been planning and coordinating the events. Mahanta also arranged to take the bhakats from Assam to New Delhi. This year, the bhakats from Amguri Xatra in Sibasagar district took part in the naam prasanga in New Delhi. Highly delighted and encouraged, naamghoriya Sarat Mahanta expressed his pleasure to visit New Delhi and to spread the message of the great Vaishnavite saint Mahapurush Sankardev in New Delhi.
