Assamese craftsman  invited to expo in China

GUWAHATI, May 8: Anuradha Kuli has been invited to take part in the Silk Road International Exposition (SRIE) to be held in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province, China. Anuradha will be displaying her works and showcase her naturally-dyed handloom Mekhela Chador and Saree at the SRIE.

This year, SRIE is being hosted by China’s National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Commerce, all China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese and China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT). The exposition that will commence on May 11th and conclude on May 15th will exhibit products like food items, cosmetics and welfare supplies along with services like sightseeing and dining out.

Assam’s Anuradha Kuli has been invited as the only craftsperson from India by the Shaanxi Women’s Federation to showcase her collections and she will also address the delegates and participants present on the occasion.

Medha Saikia, Founder President at Northeast India Fashion & Design Council (FNDC) expressed her appreciation for Anuradha’s works and congratulated her for taking Assamese handloom to greater heights. She said, “Anuradha has weaving in her blood. She is a master craftsperson who has made unique creations in Assamese silks of eri, paat and muga. I wish her success in life.”
