‘Assamese language must be developed as a language of integration’

BILASIPARA, Jan 9: “The Assamese language should not be merely a language of communication; it must be developed as a language of integration,” said Dr Dilip Kumar Dutta, newly-nomited president of Asomiya Sahitya Sanmilani. Delivering his presidential address in the open session of the third State convention of Asomiya Sahitya Sanmilani held at Shilabhadra Kshetra of Dhubri on Sunday, Dr Dilip Kumar Dutta appealed to each and every member of the organization to move towards the realization of this objective. The open session of the Sanmilani, which was attended by 247 delegates from 20 districts of Assam, was graced by the presence of Bhagirath Mishra, noted litterateur from West Bengal, as the chief guest as well as Dr Hafiz Ahmed, president of Char-Chapori Sahitya Parishad, and Dr Dwijendra th  Bhakat, president of Koch-Rajbongshi Sahitya Sabha, as the distinguished guests.

The colourful cultural rally was led by Dr Dilip Kumar Dutta and Bhagirath Mishra and  was iugurated by Dhiraj Choudhury, Deputy Commissioner of Dhubri district. In this open session of the convention, seven books published by Asomiya Sahitya Sanmilani, mely, Ishmail Hussainor Rachavali, Tiwa Sanskritit Ebhumuki, Bezbaroa Adhyayan, Kohiram Dasor Atmajeevani, Bezbaruar Sahityat Samaj-Sanskriti, Mavatar Sapakshe Aru Sankirtar Bipakshe Emuthi Anudita Bhratiya Galpa and Mavatar Sapakshe Aru Sankirtar Bipakshe Emuthi Asomiya Galpa were formally launched alongside Pragjyotika (Sanmilani jourl), Gajamukta (magazine published from Dhubri) and Borluit (souvenir published on the occasion of the Sanmilani).

In the delegates’ meeting of the convention, the State Working Committee was constituted for the upcoming 2017-19 session comprising Dr Dilip Borah (working president), Manik Doley, Prabir Kumar Barua, Dr Mukul Chakravarty, Prasan Sarma, Jiban th and Dayal Pal (vice-presidents), Dr Anuradha Sarma (general secretary), Bablu Prasad Barua, Minku Kalita, Dhanjay Talukdar, Dhurjjati Sarma and Rajat Sarma (zol secretaries), Dr Joram th and Gitanjali Das (jourl editors), Tufail Zilani (publicity secretary), Hemanta Kumar th (office secretary) as well as one working president, one secretary and two central executive members from each district, and 11 members nomited by the president of the organization.

The Sanmilani convention resolved to undertake various activities in the upcoming session under three prime objectives - to increase the number of book readers, to create new orators, and to set forth new ideals for literary activities in the Assamese language. The Sanmilani convention welcomed and appreciated the initiative taken by its newly formed Delhi branch to bring out a jourl entitled Shipa comprising articles and write-ups by the Assamese-speaking residents of Delhi. The delegates expressed their deep confidence in the effective and successful attainment of its professed goals and objectives under the able leadership of Dr Dilip Kumar Dutta.
