Assembly Election just around the corner; Mizoram fully prepared

Guwahati: The Mizoram poll countdown has begun already as the Mizoram state election machinery is fully prepared to conduct elections on November 28. Along with Mizoram, another Indian state Madhya Pradesh too will go for polls on November 28 and the results will be declared on December 11.

This year, there will be a total of 7,68,181 people of whom 3,93,685 are female voters. The polling will take place in 1,164 polling stations with EVMs to be used. With just two days left for the poll to take place, some of the polling officers and polling parties have left for their respective polling stations already. On the other hand, the polling officers deployed in nearby polling station from the capital and district headquarters are scheduled to leave for their destinations on Tuesday.

On the day of polling, the casting of votes will start from 7 am to 4 pm and immediately after the polling, the EVMs would be rushed to the strong room. For ensuring a tight security of the poll officers, the EVMs and even the voters, 40 companies of central armed police forces have been deployed by the centre. Moreover, there would be state police as well to cooperate the armed forces for smooth conduct of polling.

The results of the Assembly polls will be declared on 11 December with the counting taking place in all 8 district headquarters. There will be five counting venues in Aizawl - Assembly Annexe, Hrangbana College, Govt. Aizawl College, Pachhunga University College and R. Dengthuama hall.

On the other hand, before the polls, the pre-poll campaigns are scheduled to wrap up on Monday. The political parties are thus, going for their last round of poll campaigns on Monday with the hope of leaving no stone unturned.

There will be three National parties, three regional parties and two unregistered state parties contesting the assembly polls in Mizoram this year. Of them, Congress is contesting in all 40 constituencies of the state along with MNF. On the other hand, BJP is contesting in 39 constituencies.

The elections this year will be contested by 209 candidates including 18 women candidates. Among them, there are 63 independent candidates as well.
