Assembly elections 2018 results declared, Congress had the last smile

Guwahati: The much awaited day has come today as the results of the assembly elections of five states have been declared. The five states that underwent assembly elections are Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Telangana, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.

In Mizoram, the party with the highest lead is Mizo National Front that swiped 26 seats out of 40 Assembly seats. While other political parties like Congress won in 5 constituencies, followed by Zoram People’s Movement with 8 seats and BJP with 1 seat. With this, the party president of MNF, Zoramthanga becomes the probable candidate to be the Chief Minister of the state.

In Madhya Pradesh, it has been a neck-to-neck competition between the two major political parties, the Indian National Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party. The Congress party, so far, has secured 114 seats while BJP with 106 seats. Followed by other parties like BSP with 4 seats, GGP with 1, SP with 2 and others with 3 seats. The probable Chief Minister candidates in Madhya Pradesh are Kamal Nath/ Jyotiraditya Sindhiya and senior leader Digvijay Singh.

In Telangana, Telangana Rashtra Samithi takes the lead winning 87 seats, followed by Indian National Congress with 20 seats, All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen with 7 seats, Telugu Desam with 2 seats and Bharatiya Janata Party, All India Forward Bloc, Independent with 1 seat each. The probable Chief Minister candidate in this state is K. Chadrasekhar Rao.

In Rajasthan, Congress took the lead winning 102 seats, followed by Bharatiya Janata Party with 71 seats, Independent with 12 seats, Bahujan Samaj Party with 6 seats, Rashtriya Loktantrik Party with 3 seats and Bhartiya Tribal Party and Communist Party of India with 2 seats each. The probable Chief Ministerial candidates in Rajasthan are Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot.

In Chhattisgarh, Indian National Congress made the last smile winning 60 seats. While other parties like Bharatiya Janata Party secured 17 seats, Janta Congress Chhattisgarh (J) 5 seats and Bahujan Samaj Party 3 seats. The probable Chief Ministerial candidates in Chhattisgarh are Bhupesh Baghel, T.S. Singhdeo and Tamadhwaj Sahu.
