Assembly pays tribute to Tazap

Itagar, May 12: The Aruchal Pradesh Assembly on Friday paid tribute to former minister Ngurang Tazap, who died in a city hospital at Guwahati in Assam on March 18 last due to prolonged illness.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Speaker led the house in making obituary reference in respect of Tazap during the one-day special session convened in the new assembly building here. Born in May 8, 1959 at Rokong village under Sangoapta circle of Papum Pare district, Tazap is survived by two wives, three sons and a daughter.
Tazap did his schooling from Seva Ashram in North Lakhimpur district of Assam and completed his graduation from Government Degree College Itagar. Participating in the discussion Khandu termed him as a true statesman and a great leader who contributed a lot in fostering peaceful coexistence among the people of Assam and Aruchal Pradesh. In 1985 he joined politics and during 1987 elected as zila parishad member. In 1990 he was elected from Doimukh constituency in a Congress ticket and later served as deputy ministers for PWD and RWD under the Gegong Apang ministry.
He retired from politics after tasting defeat in 1999 and joined the Christ Ministry of Missiories. He is the pioneer in creating Papum Pare district bifurcating from Lower Subansiri district and also coined the me of the district from two rivers Papum and Pare respectively.
The chief minister while responding to a request from former chief minister bam Tuki, assured to med an institution in memory of the departed leader. The house also observed two minutes silence as a mark of respect to Tazap.
