GUWAHATI, July 3: The Assam Legislative Assembly (ALA) is likely to be in session in July-end or early August, 2018. However, the State Assembly Secretariat is in trouble with the new Assembly buildings under construction are far from being completed. The new Assembly buildings under construction have three parts, and construction works of only the main building have made some progress. Works of the two annexed buildings are very slow.
The construction of the new Assembly building had been started during the Congress regime, but the construction works had to lag behind schedule because of some legal hurdles and lack of monitoring. Though the construction work has gained pace after New Assembly Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami coming at the helm of affairs, the completion of the construction work is nowhere near. The cost of the Assembly project is Rs 234.84 crore.
