Assistant Conservator of Forest Prafulla Chandra Lahkar falls under BIEO’s Grip

GUWAHATI, Sept 4: The Bureau of Investigation (Economic Offences) (BIEO) arrested Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF), Golaghat Prafulla Chandra Lahkar from Guwahati on Tuesday for his alleged involvement with the infamous Doigrung sand mahal scam.

Following the arrest of Lahkar, as many as 10 persons including numbers of top brasses of the department have been taken under the grip of the BIEO till now in connection with the scandal.

Notably, Lahkar has been absconding over couple of months to avoid arrest. However, the BIEO were tracing the development in the illegal sand scandal in the area which is believed to be around Rs 80 lakh in total.

Earlier, the BIEO had already arrested Golaghat DFO Rajiv Kumar Das, Range Officer Praneswar Das, Protection Range Officer Jitendra Nath Dutta, Deputy Ranger Mukul Ali Hazarika, Deputy Ranger Umesh Chandra Dutta, Depot Holder Abdul Millu, Mahalder Abdul Hasmat, Depot Holder Gautam Upadhaya and Mahari Mintu Saikia.
