MANGALDAI, August 12: Bi Babu Singh, Assistant Planning Officer (APO) of the office of Deputy Commissioner, Darrang was caught red handed today by the sleuths of Vigilance and Anti Corruption branch while accepting bribe .
The Anti Corruption team on the basis of a complaint received from an youth of demanding bribe amounting to Rs 15,000 by the said APO against release of fund for a construction work under MPLAD of former Prime Minister Man Mohan Singh , laid trap to b the officer red handed.
Accordingly as per the instruction of the APO Singh the complaint reportedly handed over the said cash amount mixed with specific chemicals to the middleman identified as Ajay Barman , a local contractor, leading to the arrest of the senior officer and along with the middleman. A cash amount of Rs 15,000 along with two mobile phones have reportedly seized from the office chamber of the APO.
Later eleven member anti corruption team led by Inspector Someswar Dutta raided the rented house of the accused officer at Bhebarghat area of Mangaldai and recovered a cash amount of Rs 1 lakh and five pass books of different bank accounts .
A case (No.ACB 9 /2016) under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered in this regard.
It may mentioned here that earlier on July 25 last , District Elementary Education Officer of the district Phulendra Kalita was arrested by the Vigilance and Anti Corruption branch while taking bribe of Rs 20,000 in his office chamber.
